María Heras
María is a sustainability researcher at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA), of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). She holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Technology, through which she has explored the interplay between arts and participatory sustainability science. Her research interests focus on social learning, participatory action-research and the potentials of Art/Science hybrid experiences for transdisciplinary dialogues. She is currently working in the PERFORM H2020 EU research project exploring the impact of the participatory educational process in students’ learning about and engagement in science.
Louis Lemkow
Degrees in Sociology, Geography and Environmental Science. PhD, Doctor Hon Causa and professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (the UAB is a public university and ranked 12th world-wide of universities under 50 years old by the Times Higher Educational Supplement). Director of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology/Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals (ICTA – 152 researchers) UAB 2006-2012. Vice-Rector UAB 1994-2002. President, Fundació Autònoma Solidària 1998-2002. Member Executive Board European Consortium of Innovative Universities, 1997-2002. Member, Executive Board, Venice International University, 1997-2001. Has been adviser/consultant for WHO and for the European Commission: DG XI (Environment), DG XII (Research) and the Consumer Policy Service. Was visiting professor at Cornell University (USA) and the Andalusian School of Public Health (Granada, Spain). Commissioner EU-Korea Conferences . Principal investigator in 14 EU funded research projects. Has given lectures and seminars in over 30 countries. Author and co-author of 12 books and over 100 publications. Is currently researching on social vulnerability and natural hazards in the context of climate change, energy poverty and also on the emerging challenges of novel technologies. Broad area of research and writing; the interface between society and the environment.
Sandrine Gallois
Sandrine Gallois is an eco-anthropologist, who collaborated in the PERFORM H2020 EU research project exploring the impact of the participatory educational process on students’ learning about and engagement in science. She holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Technology through which she has explored the pathways of acquisition and transmission of traditionnal knowledge among an hunter-gatherer society from the Congo Basin (the Baka). Her main research interests relates to childhood, learning, the dynamic of knowledge and the relation between societies and their environment.
